Free Time – Ov Pain

Today’s album is from off shore but I’m making an exception as this duo emerged from the dark of Dunedin and the idea of the South is still keenly felt.

Ov Pain are Renee Barrance and Tim Player. Renee is one of the best ms-20 operators out there and evokes drones and pulses of old time circuits with a captivating presence and freshness. Tim is often playing drums or scrawking reeds, but on this album brings his fizzed skitter to synthesis.

Free Time is in the tradition of Coil’s Time Machines. Long static but detailed moods of oscillation, resonance, and constraint. The duo layered four synthesisers (two apiece) in one take sessions and did a small amount of finessing afterwards to tie the album together.

Immerse yourself in the time of Ov Pain.
